If coming by car…

Navigate to Clayton, New York. Clayton is 90 miles north of Syracuse. Some vacation rentals in the village of Clayton don't have dedicated overnight parking. If that's the case, there are two public parking lots in the village that allow free overnight parking - one behind Watertown Savings Bank, another across from Lion's Park on the corner of Webb & State Streets.

If coming by plane…

There are three airports that service the Thousand Islands region. Note that if you are flying in from a distance and see options in Canada (Ottawa, Montreal, or Toronto), you will not be able to cross the US land border with a rental car. Cross-border chauffeur services are available, but expensive. We recommend flying into one of the U.S. airports listed below.

Syracuse, NY (SYR) - 85 miles from Clayton

Syracuse is a 90 minute drive from Clayton and serviced by American, Delta, United, jetBlue, Frontier, Breeze, Allegiant, and Sun Country airlines. There are multiple flights a day to many major US airports. Onsite rental cars are offered by Hertz, Enterprise, National, Dollar, Budget, and Avis. Taxis and rideshare to Clayton is possible, but availability is limited and fares can be expensive.

Watertown, NY (ART) - 20 miles from Clayton

Watertown is the closest airport, but is small. There are two flights to Philadelphia per day on American Airlines. Rent-a-wreck provides rental car services for the airport, and will meet you at the airport with your car. The rental agency is closed on Sundays, but you can leave your car in the free parking lot at the terminal and drop your keys in the drop box.

Ogdensburg, NY (OGS) - 47 miles from Clayton

Ogdensburg is another small airport option if you cannot fly directly to Syracuse. Daily flights to/from Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) are operated by Breeze Airlines. Blevins Brothers, a local car dealership, operates onsite car rentals at the airport.

If coming by another mode of transportation (+ a note about rideshare)

There are options to take trains (Amtrak) or buses to Syracuse and Watertown. If you choose one of these options, we encourage you to do some research and have a plan for how you'll make your way to Clayton. There are taxi options in both Syracuse and Watertown, but taxis typically require advance planning and can be expensive ($200+ from Syracuse to Clayton). Rideshare is more affordable and availability is improving, but isn't yet reliable enough for us to feel confident recommending it as an option.

We recommend that all guests stay in Clayton, NY. We will be providing transport to all wedding activities from Clayton.

Clayton is a vacation destination, so there are many vacation rental options. There are also a few hotel options and a number of inns and motels. As such, there are no lodging options that allow us to provide a room block for our guests.

PSA: The Thousand Islands is a region comprising 1,864 islands. Wellesley Island is the only island accessible by car. The other islands are only accessed by private boat - there is no public ferry. For the ease and convenience of our guests, we highly recommend booking accommodation on the mainland.  Please read the description of any vacation rentals closely to be sure it's not on an island! If you do choose to book an island property, RJ Marine offers dock-to-dock water taxi services for $8-10/minute (max. 6 people per trip) with advance notice.

Given Clayton is a seasonal vacation destination, many people book accomodations well in advance. Even if you're not sure if you'll be able to attend, we recommend booking accommodations as soon as possible, as many accommodation options do have flexible booking policies. The best vacation rentals will start getting booked a year or more in advance.

Hotels

The 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel is located in Clayton. The Harbor Hotel is a popular wedding venue, and since we're getting married on an island (much more fun!) and not at the hotel, we are unable to secure a block of rooms. That doesn't mean there won't be rooms - it just means we can't hold them. Summer weekend rates are typically $350/night and up.

Inns and B&Bs

Islander Lodge: 7 simple rooms with private bathrooms, ranging from $125-150 per night. Note: we have reserved this entire lodge for guests, so if you're interested in staying here, please contact us to hold a room.

Wooden Boat Inn: 6 rooms with private bathrooms, as well as a 3br/1.5ba house available for rent. Individual rooms range from $200-250 per night.

McKinley House B&B: 5 rooms in the center of Clayton ranging from $175-190 per night. Also available for booking on Airbnb.

Captain Simons B&B: 4 rooms with private bathrooms in the heart of Clayton, priced around $250 per night.
